Truescape Rotterdam was a handcrafted horror escape room that ran from October 2015 to 2018 in the historic Westelijk Handelsterrein building (1894) near Veerhaven. In their only room, The Asylum, you entered a facility that was closed in 1947 following reports of extreme violence and horrific experiments — but rumor had it someone had quietly resumed the work. Decor, puzzles, and effects were entirely handmade by the owners and merged into one chilling thriller experience that reviewers ranked among the best in the Netherlands: aggregators noted 100% recommendations and praise for hospitable hosts and fair pricing. The room didn't fail due to quality but to real estate and Covid: after the building sold in 2018, The Asylum relocated to Breda, where it permanently closed in 2021; the company continues as Truescape Gaming Company, developer of digital and physical games with escape room DNA.
