Escaperoom Vrijheid was a temporary, volunteer-built pop-up in community center De Grashoek in Noordwijk, created on the occasion of 80 years of freedom and playable from March through May 31, 2025. The team was divided between an isolation cell and an interrogation room: only by exchanging cryptic descriptions, hidden clues and codes back and forth did you progress, with each phase making a different aspect of freedom โ freedom of speech, education, privacy โ tangible. For โฌ8 per person you got 80 minutes of playtime (one minute per year of freedom). The local press and even the municipal executive were full of praise: 'an impressive and educational experience that makes you think about how freedom is not taken for granted'. The closure was planned โ no business failure โ and the website is now offline.
