About this venue
EscapeBox Middelburg is not a traditional escape room but a tabletop variant in entertainment center Podium19 on the ZEP grounds, opened in October 2024 next to Prison Island. Teams of 2-4 players work on wooden puzzle boxes filled with hidden compartments and mechanical tricks; whoever cracks enough of them collects the codes for the safe at the back — you don't need to solve everything to win. Each box has its own theme and difficulty level (in 2025 an extra challenging 'Einstein-version' was added), and up to 20 players can compete in teams simultaneously. There's barely a story; it's pure puzzling. The venue is too new for aggregation scores, but first reactions praise the fairly challenging puzzles, the teamwork aspect, and the low entry price — a nice warm-up or addition to a day at Podium19, not a destination in itself.
