Escape at Sea is a compact, handmade escape room (since 2018) in the attic above beach café/pizzeria De Groese Duintjes on the coast near Groede — the only fixed room in West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The original story is set in 1763: seaman Jan Compaen, owner of fishing boat 'De Vrijbuyter', disappeared at sea after a letter from William of Orange changed his fate, and players reconstruct what happened to him in a setting of 'the smallest café in Zeeland'. Today the same space also runs a lighter re-skin around pizzeria chef Antonio Bellucci and his lost family recipe. With 8.4 over 33 reviews on escaperoomsnederland.nl, this family room scores remarkably well: visitors feel part of the story and praise the creative, handmade mechanisms — though it's cramped with six adults and the mechanics are beginning to age.
Het was een hele leuke escape, goed over nagedacht… helaas niet gehaald, maar lang over nagepraat.— escaperoomsnederland
Heel creatief bedacht. Zat goed in elkaar.— escaperoomsnederland
Leuke kamer met veel te ontdekken. Soms lastige puzzels, maar met wat aanwijzingen van de organisatie goed op te lossen.— escaperoomsnederland
