About this venue

Salon van Weleer is first a cultural salon (theatre, music, stories) and then a play venue: in a real medieval wine cellar on the Oudegracht, professional actors perform fully analogue 'Real Live-Games' without screens or technology. In Het Scriptorium (1886) you are hired by the housekeeper and chef as extra staff to find the Donnersmarck diamonds within an hour; in Het Reliquiarium medium Mister Nepveu conducts a Victorian séance in which you must discover which of six relics is not from a saint but from a heretic. There are also spin-off formats such as Het Purgatorium and 19th-century salon game evenings. Visitors praise the acting, the atmosphere of the historical cellar and the fact that even losing is made fun; anyone looking purely for puzzles should know this is more theatre than escape room, with a 16+ age limit and a fixed group price.
