About this venue
Escaperoom Elixir was located in the monumental botanical greenhouse of Cantonspark in Baarn (built 1914, once a research greenhouse of Utrecht University) and was considered the first and only escape room in the world inside a botanical greenhouse. The game was set in 1929: Professor Pulle brews the elixir of eternal life in his secret jungle laboratory, but is missing one ingredient — the flower of the extremely rare Queen of the Night. Two identical rooms enabled competitive play with groups up to 12 people, with a host who set the mission in character. Visitors praised the surreal setting among real exotic plants and the fully thematic puzzles; the game ranked in the Dutch top 50 and drew thousands of visitors per month at its peak. In July 2023, the monumental building closed to the public and the Wintertuin Experience ended (2017-2023) — the closure was due to the building, not the product's popularity; the old website is offline.
