Escape Room Texel was a small, quirky island operation in Oudeschild (opened 2016) with two rooms cleverly rooted in Texel itself. In De VOC you wake in a dark ship's cell: a 'soul-seller' had you sign away to the Dutch East India Company in the pub the night before, and you had to escape before the ship departed for Ceylon — fitting with the authentic VOC anchorage in Oudeschild. In De Professor the eccentric Professor Swartschaep, fed up with tourists and sheep, wants to blow up the entire island. Reviews were mixed: the intro video, friendly host, and 'true thinking-person' puzzles earned praise, but there were also complaints about broken components, locks that could be shaken open, rooms too dark, and amateurish finish (average 6.8). The venue has since closed permanently; closure was quiet with poor communication to bookers.
