Escape Cafe Hilversum is located in central Hilversum (Spuisteeg 3A) and combines escape rooms with its own café, for groups of 3 to 36 people. The flagship is 'Zoltar Speaks!': in a shadowy antique shop hides Zoltar, an enchanted fortune-telling arcade machine, and you step through a 15th-century portal into an Arab marketplace world where you evade a guard and outwit a greedy sultan — a deliberately upbeat, colorful tone, unusual for often dark Dutch rooms. There's also the competitive The Elimination Game (teams against each other). The room features a live actor, choices with visible consequences and high-tech beneath a fairy tale skin. It's internationally award-winning (TERPECA 2025 #82 worldwide, Golden Lock Award 2025, Morty 'Overwhelmingly Positive' with 114 ratings) and visitors praise the sensory decoration, costumes, surprises and humor. Minor criticism: there's no actual physical Zoltar machine, and fans of dark rooms may find the tone too light.
