Epix Arcade was a 500 m² VR experience center in Zaandam (Stormhoek 45) that opened in July 2021 with eight licensed VR escape rooms (each ~60 min, 1–2 players, age 12+), plus arcade cabinets, pool, table football, darts and a VR café. The themes were generic off-the-shelf horror/sci-fi/crime narratives without original storytelling. Visitors were enthusiastic about the sense of 'presence' ('didn't expect it to seem so real'), friendly staff, low price (€27.95 pp) and free parking. Despite satisfied customers and minimal complaints, the VR division closed in April 2025 and the venue shut down ('The End') — the licensed, interchangeable content delivered no memorable story moment and thus only price competition.
