Enigma Escape Rooms 2.0 was Volendam's only escape room, located in a basement in the old heart of the village (Meerzijde 25). The '2.0' stood for a restart: the original Enigma room from 2017 was replaced by one flagship chamber that opened in May 2019. In 'Het Geheim van de Lutine' you travelled back in time to search for the never fully recovered gold treasure of the Lutine, a cargo ship that sank in 1799 — a real, famous shipwreck. The room was completely decorated in Volendam style, worked without traditional locks and alternated brain puzzles with physical assignments. Visitors praised the gripping atmosphere, the story, the friendly staff and the local history angle, with a strong but thin review base (including TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2021, 95% recommendation). The venue has since closed permanently: its own website shows an expired, suspended domain and escapetalk lists the room as 'permanently closed'.
