Enigma Escape Rooms 2.0 is Volendam's only escape room, housed in a basement in the old heart of the village (Meerzijde 25). The '2.0' stands for a fresh start: the original Enigma room from 2017 was replaced by one flagship room that opened in May 2019. In 'Het Geheim van de Lutine' you travel back in time to search for the never-fully-recovered gold treasure of the Lutine, a cargo ship that sank in 1799 — a real, famous shipwreck. The room is fully decorated in Volendam style, works without traditional locks and alternates brain puzzles with physical tasks. Visitors praise the immersive atmosphere, the story, friendly staff and the local history angle; the venue has a strong but thin review base (including TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice 2021, 95% recommendation) and periodically had an expired website certificate, so check availability in advance.
