Zwart Escaperoom Breda

Breda Closed 1 room

About this venue

ZWART Breda was a unique 'dine-and-escape-in-the-dark' concept at Breda harbour, with at its core an escape room that played entirely in pitch darkness. In the only room, In The Dark (opened Nov 2017, 60 min, 2-14 players), teams solved the case of escaped burglar 'Mr. Zwart', explicitly not an escape but solving a crime, guided by blind or visually impaired guides who were diegetically your escorts through the darkness. The signature was total sensory reversal: without sight you listen better and collaborate in a completely different way. Press and blog reviews were unanimously enthusiastic about the intensity, the focus and the social value of employing blind staff, often combined with a meal in the dark. The venue has closed (around 2020, the restaurant moved to Van Asch Horeca Beheer): a beautiful concept that worked, but according to the owner was not profitable under the circumstances.

Rooms

  • In The DarkVolledig in het donker de misdaden van ontsnapte crimineel 'Mr. Zwart' ontrafelen, geleid door blinde gidsen; oplossen in plaats van ontsnappen (60 min, 2-14p)

What visitors say

  • Intense and meaningful; you get to know each other in a completely different way
  • Strong focus because sight is taken away and you listen more acutely
  • Social added value of employing blind/visually impaired guides, nice to combine with dining in the dark
  • Concept economics only worked at full capacity; 'beautiful concept, not profitable'
