Stadsbrouwerij Maastricht built one escape room around its own identity in the Wyck district (Oeverwal 12): The Brewer's Secret, in which you reconstruct the lost recipe of Maastricht's first craft beer by finding and combining hidden ingredients. The actual experience was a day-out package: a treasure hunt through Wyck (starting at the Sint Servaasbrug, past places you normally pass by), followed by the escape room in the brewery and usually finished with a beer tasting on the terrace overlooking the Meuse. What reviews there are praise precisely this combination of treasure hunt, brewery and tasting as a successful outing; the criticism is that the room itself was light — a hospitality side-product, not a destination in itself, something experienced players can look past. The escape room stood 'closed for maintenance' and never reopened as an escape room; the brewery/taproom itself continues to operate.
