The escape rooms at ZERO55 in Apeldoorn are part of a large, futuristic entertainment center on Dubbelbeek with e-karting, glow bowling, laser games, a VR arena and more. The escape offering consists of two mini-escapes of 20 minutes, Attack Mode and Power Fail (both spaceship-themed, designed to play head-to-head against each other), plus the X-Cube: a high-tech hybrid between escape room and video game with rotating scenarios such as solving a murder or disarming a bomb. Everything is short, fast and competitive; the guidance is center-operational without an actor or deep gamemastering. Visitors find the rooms look nice and praise the friendly staff, ideal as a warm-up between karting and bowling and for children's parties. The criticism: the challenge is superficial, the briefings reveal too much, and the escape rooms are often seen as the weakest activity in the venue. A reliable standalone score for the rooms is lacking.
