Escaperoom De Kolenmijn is located at activity park Veluwse Poort in Dieren, on the edge of National Park Veluwezoom. The story is framed as local history: during excavation work, an old coal mine from 1865 was supposedly discovered with nine tunnels, the deepest 51 meters underground, and your team of 2 to 8 players has one hour to traverse the mine and return safely. Before entering, you put on boots, an overall and a helmet, which immediately enhances the immersion. Visitors especially praise the immersion ('you really feel like you're underground') and the friendly welcome; hints arrive atmospherically via a ringing mine telephone with a miner's voice. Criticism concerns the sometimes illogical order of puzzles and that with eight people there's too little to do (really space for about four active players). The rating is 7.4 out of 9 reviews.
