Hanze Escaperoom is located in the authentic Vischpoort of Elburg, the 16th-century city gate between the harbour and the fortified city, and is run together with Museum Elburg. In The Gatekeeper's Test you play a 75-minute 'job interview': Luurt, the last gatekeeper, is retiring and Elburg is looking for replacements, so your team must prove you can man the gate as Hanseatic gatekeepers did (collecting tolls on fish, grain and hides). The monument itself is the room: you play across multiple levels via steep stairs in small, dark spaces, which makes it not wheelchair accessible. The briefing is provided by two enthusiastic, characterful hostesses (Kimberley and Jolanda). There is still barely an independent review corpus, but the room is in Elburg's top 10 tourist attractions and is praised for its authentic location and personal guidance.
