About this venue
The Escaperoom voor de Vrijheid is part of the Nationaal Onderduikmuseum on the Markt in Aalten and is located in an authentic building where people actually hid during World War II — while a German Ortskommandant had his office in the front room of the same house. You play as people in hiding who must reach freedom within an hour, where not just puzzles and secret codes but especially moral dilemmas take centre stage; created by theatre makers Theo Soontiëns and Caro Wicher, museum visit afterwards included. Visitors are impressed by the sobering, authentic atmosphere and the committed volunteers who carry the story with an extensive briefing and debriefing (8.5 on escaperoomsnederland, around 8.9 on escapetalk). The occasional critic feels the execution doesn't fully live up to the strong concept, and the space is not wheelchair accessible.
