Escape Vrijland Arnhem took place in a real old building on Landgoed Vrijland in Schaarsbergen, a 19th-century estate with a past as a residence, monastery and wartime location. In Krakers van Vrijland your team were the squatters themselves: the municipality had announced the eviction and you had one hour to leave before the riot police arrived — complete with helicopter and raid sounds as time ran out. Visitors especially praised how perfectly the shabby building suited the theme and the friendly owner; criticism focused on the many (around eighteen) locks, deliberate misinformation and extensive searching, which made you heavily dependent on hints from the game master. The room closed in March 2020 after about 11,000 visitors, when the owner moved on to other projects.
