Escape Room Zutphen ran one room from May 2017, De Kroon van de Koning, within party and games center Kings & Queens near the station. The story drew nicely on real local history: when the Spanish attacked the city in 1521, the king fled in panic and hid his crown at the real Kruittoren — researcher Henk van Zutphen searched for it for years and players continue his quest. Reviewers praised the beautiful story, execution and friendly guidance, but found the room very difficult and overcrowded: too many puzzles to solve at the same time, making small groups helpless while still paying full price. With an escapetalk score of 6.7 on just three reviews, the room flew under the radar; it was still open in mid-2021 but has since quietly disappeared.
