The Workout was a surprisingly strong village room in Witmarsum (Friesland), opened in October 2017 next to a café and run by the same operators as Escape Room Sneek. The story begins innocently in a gym: during a power outage you hear owner Hendrik Alter talking to a Russian accomplice about large-scale drug trafficking — and because you know too much, you get locked in. Reviewers praised precisely that twist ('surprising'), the great variety of puzzles and the friendly, personal reception; with 8.8 on escapetalk and 8.9 on escaperoomsnederland the room scored exceptionally well for a village location. Criticisms were the dim lighting making everything hard to read and the large number of locks. The room has since permanently closed and the own website (escaperoomzwf.nl) is offline; the sister rooms in Sneek lasted longer.
