Escape Room Balk was an escape room with one chamber on a business park in Balk, opened in February 2016 and now permanently closed (reviews stop in 2017 and the own domain is for sale). The theme was uniquely Frisian: it's February 8, 2012 and Wiebe Wieling has just cancelled the Elfstedentocht — but was the ice really too thin, or were others involved? Players investigated in the office of the regional heads whether the officials lied, aiming to declare: 'The Elfstedentocht goes ahead!'. Reviews were sharply divided: first-time players gave nines for the clever theme and friendly host, while experienced players punished the illogical puzzles, cheap props, misleading numbers on decorations and the hint system with time penalties with ones and threes.
