Escape Bolsward opened in November 2018 as Bolsward's very first escape room on the upper floor of a truck drivers' café on Marne — but is now permanently closed (escapetalk marks the venue as permanently shut and the website is offline). The single room, De Bovenkamer, had a clever double meaning name ('bovenkamer' as both attic and 'head/mind') and a modern medical-horror story: you signed up for paid scientific research, but the treatments proved more harmful and frightening than promised with no way out. The only detailed escapetalk review gave an 8.5, with high scores for atmosphere (9) and service (9) but a weak 7.5 for puzzles — beautiful décor and welcoming service, but gameplay as the weak link. Why the venue closed is undocumented; a single-room location above someone else's café during coronavirus times is the most likely explanation.
