De Twirre is a watersports and activities centre in Earnewâld, in the middle of National Park De Alde Feanen, with the Skûtsje Escaperoom (± 75 minutes) as its escape offering. You step aboard skipper Jan's skûtsje and his wife Sjut and are transported back into the world of old Frisian freight skippers — the story is woven from genuine skipper lore and is told via an intro film with footage of a historic ship, narrated by none other than skûtsje sailing commentator Klaas Jansma. The room exists in three identical copies, so up to 21 people can play simultaneously (and automatically compete against each other) — typically a group outing machine, with a minimum of around 8-10 people. Reviewers particularly give the atmosphere high marks (escapetalk 8.8, atmosphere 9.3): 'you really feel like you're on a ship', with deliberately minimal visible technology because the electronics are hidden in antique compasses and clocks. Small caveat: the minimum group size excludes small teams and the number of reviews is limited.
