Yankee Doodle was an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant at Borgstee in Assen that from February 2017 linked escape rooms to its dinner business: guests were called away from their meal, played a room and returned for dessert. There were three adult rooms โ the Trump parody Save The World, the Prohibition-themed The Hunt For Al Capone and Deathrow: The Story of Uncle Jimmy, where you searched for exonerating evidence for a death row inmate in 60 minutes โ plus a kids' room. The formula was cheap and fun combined with the buffet, but the rooms were an afterthought: reviewers reported poor service, shabby sets, malfunctioning tech and illogical puzzles, earning a meager 6.3 on escapetalk (Drenthe's lowest-rated venue). The escape rooms vanished, then the restaurant itself closed; the website is now a for-sale domain. It remains mainly interesting as a warning and for the strong Deathrow premise.
