About this venue
Escape from Veenhuizen is not an escape room but an outdoor escape game that has been running for over thirty years: as escaped prisoners you trek through the forests around Veenhuizen and Norg in the dark, while costumed guards chase you. Along the way you complete tasks, can evade guards or even verbally mislead them, and 'buddies' appear who secretly help you further. The game starts and ends at Grand Café Hotel Karsten in Norg, is only played from October 1 to April 1 (when it's genuinely dark) and is designed for large groups of around 30 to 80 people, usually combined with a buffet. Reviews are unanimously enthusiastic, especially about the actors who stay in character from beginning to end; the only practical limitations are the large minimum group size and the winter season.
